OW OWNERS FAQ

CHECK OUT THE MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OW RIDING, ACCESSORIES AND MORE

What is the fastest you’ve gone on your board?
This is one of the most common questions and was a major inspiration for creating the Float or Dive brand. To answer the question… about 28 MPH. With that said, you had better be GEARED UP if you’re going to go that fast. In all honesty this board was not made to go really fast. It was made for floating / cruising and carving on or off road. If you want to go really fast there are better e-boards on the market for doing just that.

What are the best accessories for a new rider?
The best suggestion regarding accessories for a new rider is to GEAR UP! Get a good helmet, wrist guards and knee pads. You’re most likely going to fall, it happens. With the right safety gear, you can dust off and float on. Spend your money gearing up before customzing your board.

What are the best accessories to customize and protect your board?
The are lots of products on the market now that enable you to customize the look of your board as well as protect it from weather and wrecks. The most popular are listed below.

- Rail Guards / Sidekicks | Protective rails made from various materials and sold in many different colors. They help protect your original rails from damage. You’ll find lots of colors at TheFloat.life, carbon fiber sidekicks at Eight2Ten.com and you can even get LED Light Guards from CraftandRide.com or CarvePower.com.

- Rail Wraps | These are simple wraps allowing you to easily customize the color of your rails. These are NOT protective wraps. You can always get a colored rail wrap and cover it with a Crystal Clear Rail Guard / Sidekicks from CraftandRide.com.

- Grind Plates | Protective plates made from various materials and sold in many different colors. They help protect the battery and computer board housing and also assist with grinding curbs etc. Grind plates are available from most of the accessory manufacturers such as TheFloat.life, CraftandRide.com, Eight2Ten.com and more.

- Fenders | There are many different fenders on the market made from various materials including Carbon Fiber fenders from CraftandRide.com. Fenders are a great way to not only prevent debris from hitting you from the tire but they’re an easy way to customize your board with your favorite color.

- Footpads | There are several footpad upgrades to choose from including the Kush Concave footpad from TheFloat.life that comes in several colors. Another popular option is the Cobra Footpad from OWarmor.com. There is no upgraded footpad for the front due to the sensor’s location. As soon as someone makes one, you’ll find it here.

- Flight Fins | If you plan on riding hard and catching air the you'll probably love the Flight Fins. Attached to both sides of the fender, these fins help keep your feet on the board when in flight. You can find them at FlightFins.com with various models available.

- Custom Stands | Amazing custom stands to hold and display your ride with pride. You can choose a basic stand or for just a little more you can have a custom stand with whatever theme you can dream. Contact Michael Broussard for details at FloatBum.com.

What is Pushback?
Pushback is the boards way of telling the rider something is wrong. Whether it be going too fast or a low battery, pushback is warning you. In most situations if you do not pay attention to the pushback you’re asking for a nosedive.

How can I prevent getting hurt from a nosedive?
Nosedives occur for several reasons but the most common is leaning forward too much. You should always keep your head above the wheel and DO NOT lean forward so much that your head is past the wheel. Your body weight will be too much for the motor and you will nosedive. The best way to prevent nosedives and getting hurt is to gear up and slowly learn for yourself what the board can and cannot do. Another way to help reduce the risk of injury from a nosedive is to install “nosedive wheels”. More info on them below.

Who sells the nosedive wheels, and do they work?
The most popular nosedive wheels are called Fangs and sold by Land-Surf.com. Theses wheels DO NOT prevent nosedives but can assist you in either riding a nosedive out or at least giving the rider an extra second or two to prepare yourself to be thrown from the board. Many haters feel they’re training wheels and make the board a Threewheel but most don’t care. Even the best riders have accidents and if the Fangs can help make the wipeout less harmful, I say get em.

Why is my board dying when the app says it has a decent percentage?
The app is not only commonly incorrect but the batteries themselves need to be properly charged sometimes in order to balance the cells. To do this it is recommended that you kill the battery completely and then charge it for 72 hours straight. Unfortunately the battery diagnostic tool was removed from the app (everyone should ask FM to put it back!). It's also helful to not always use the battery percentage meter on the app. Instead go to the settings and look at the voltage. Below is a simple rule of thumb to float by.

OW + Voltage:
- 58V Full Battery
- >54V Almost Full
- 53V 75% Battery
- 52V 50% Battery (HEAD HOME)
- 51V 25% Battery (SLOW DOWN)
- 50V 1% Warning (10% Actually)
- 42V 0% Battery

OW XR Voltage:
- 63V Full Battery
- >61V Almost Full
- 57V 75% Battery
- 54V 50% Battery (HEAD HOME)
- 51V 25% Battery (SLOW DOWN)
- 50V 10% Warning
- 44V 0% Battery

*** IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN YOUR BOARD IS GETTING CLOSE TO DYING ***

When should I charge my battery?
The batteries on this board are not like laptop batteries that should be drained before charging to obtain the longest lifespan. You can charge these boards as often as you like and as discussed above, it's suggested to occasionally charge the board for 72 hours straight to balance the cells.

What’s the best surface to practice on?
The best place to practice on is going to be the flatest and most forgiving place you can fall on. Think about places like a football or soccer field. You want to avoid anywhere that has holes, loose gravel or thick grass. An empty parking lot is also a good place so long as you're geared up.

Who sells the water proofing kit?
The water proofing kit is called The Badger Kit and is sold @ BadgerWheel.com

What is the suggested tire pressure for the stock vega?
The recommended tire pressure for the stock vega tire is 20 psi. Tire pressure is often an overlooked variable and should be addressed just as much as the tire pressure of your car, if not more. Weight does make a difference so playing with the tire pressure may be helpful for some riders.

Can I fly on a plane with my board?
You cannot fly with an XR! You have only a few options to float on your vaca with an XR model. You can ship your board where you're going, you can pull the battery and carry it on or there are some locations that rent boards.

Who makes the LED Light Guards?
The LED Light Guards were created and sold by CarvePower.com and also sold at CraftandRide.com as well. They come in 3 colors and have 6 modes including a sound sensitive mode. Advertised to be quite durable.
